Attendance:
We appreciate knowing when a dancer will be absent. Texting is best. Graded Level Ballet students must call or text if they will be absent from class. Excessive or unreported absences, and excessive lateness, will jeopardize a dancer’s eligibility to participate in performances.
Parental Permission:
We are concerned with the safety of all of our dancers. If your child is permitted to leave the ballet school on their own, you must have a release form on file with us. No dancer will be permitted to leave the studio alone without prior arrangement.
Green Room Behavior Before and After Class:
No electronic devices are permitted in the green room. Please take phone calls in the hallway. The green room is for quiet studying, stretching and preparing for class. Be respectful of dancers working in the studio. Strollers and scooters must be left in the hallway. No food in the green room.
Performances and Rehearsals:
Parents and dancers are responsible for staying informed about rehearsals and performances. Printed copies of related emails will be available in the green room.
BEHAVIOR
Our Manners:
Dancers are polite ladies and gentlemen. They should not lean against the wall, barre, or radiators. Sitting down, unless directed to do so, is not acceptable; and dancers should never chew gum during class.
Rudeness to teachers and peers is absolutely unacceptable in ballet, for which you may be dismissed from class or even expelled from the school. Yawning, talking, whispering, or having private giggle sessions with your friends during class is considered rude behavior.
Our Attention:
Dancers are in class to work, watch and listen, especially when combinations are being demonstrated. At higher levels students are expected to know the proper vocabulary and be able to pick up steps quickly and correctly. Attention is important. Teachers may not show the combination more than once.
When moving across the floor or from the back to the front of the room, take your position in line and be ready to go. If you’re not intending to go, make it clear to others by getting out of the way.
Permission to Leave Class:
Dancers should always ask permission to leave the studio while class is in progress, even if ill. To disappear from class without permission is unacceptable. If you must leave class early, quietly catch the teacher’s attention at the end of a combination, wave thank you or curtsy and silently leave. Always try to speak with the teacher before class begins to let them know you will have to leave early. This will cause less distraction and not disrupt the flow of class when you leave.
Refund Policy
It is the policy of the Long Island City School of Ballet (LICSB) that tuition and other fees paid will not be refunded at any time, regardless of the time of cancellation or whether the class has started.
Withdrawal after Registration: If a student withdraws after registration for any reason, it is the policy of LICSB that all tuition and other fees paid will not be refunded at any time, regardless of the time of cancellation. New students are encouraged to schedule a trial class before registering.
Injury: In the event of an injury after the program commences that causes a student to withdraw for the entire remainder of the program term, the student may request a pro-rated credit towards future LICSB classes. In order to receive the pro-rated credit the student must provide a signed and dated note from their doctor on their doctor’s stationary indicating the nature of the injury and the date which the student can return to dancing which must fall on a date after the semester term ends. Credit will not be issued for classes missed within a semester.
